Busy Last Week and Now this Week

Well Beauty and the Beast is over but what a great show!!! The scenery and costumes were magnificent. The Centre is very proud of the shows we had for the Broadway series this year. Wizard of Oz in December and now Beauty and the Beast both had rave reviews.

To finish off the week we had 2 nights with Our Lady Peace. Friday night the place was packed for the band to play their full album of “Clumsy” during the first act. It was such a success that people bought tickets for the following night when they were playing “Spiritual Machines” in the first act. The band played the entire night with no opening act!!! This seems to be the popular method once the performers have enough music to play a full 2 hours!

This week, March 22 – March 27, we start Tuesday night with “Queen – It’s a Kinda Magic”. This tribute show has been to the Centre previously and is truly dedicated to Queen and the memory of Freddie Mercury. There are still plenty of good seats left unlike the following night.

Wednesday March 24 Blue Rodeo is back and this is a sold out show!!!! What a fantastic response to one of Canada’s greatest bands. Everyone is always excite when the boys return to the Centre in the Square.

To round out the week the KW Symphony is at the Centre for their Signature Series. This weekend’s performance is Rach 3, Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3 with William Wolfram on piano.

Updates

Just to update everyone on the new shows coming to the Centre in the Square. We have added Barenaked Ladies on April 26 at 8 pm and Xavier Rudd on May 19 at 8 pm. Both of these show look to be exciting entries to our lineup!!! In addition remember that David Gray will be appearing on our stage May 24, 2010 at 8 pm. Our Programming Department is busy working on next season’s series. They are keeping all information close to their chests but everyone in that department is walking around with happy looks on their faces.

Saturday, February 20th these 4 talented performers will be at the Centre in the Square. This looks to be one of the funniest shows that has come to the Centre. The information that comes to us on this group is great.

ELECTRIC NIGHTS

Both Jann Arden nights were fabulous!!! She is such an amazing entertainer and every time she comes to the Centre in the Square the audiences are so upbeat!!

Tonight, Wednesday, February 3 is the first night of this seasons Electric Thursdays (Wednesday Edition). This is truly our most popular series and tonight is The Music of Fleetwood Mac. Remember the 70′s and the unique sound of Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks. Remember that this concert is repeated tomorrow, Thursday, February 4 at 7:30 pm.

Friday, February 5 will be the annual Faith FM’ Shinin’ Star. This is an event that is based on the popular American Idol format featuring local vocal Christian talent. Sponsored by Faith FM, your Inspiration Station, Shinin’ Star 2010 has their final 9 contestant and the decision will be made Friday evening http://www.faithfm.org/shining_star.shtml

JANN ARDEN

Jan 24…the first night of Jann Arden at the Centre in the Square.  In rehersal earlier she was in great voice and this promises to be an exciting concert.  If you have not seen Jann in person then you have missed one of Canada’s great entertainers.  You really do have to be here to appreciate the person she is … not just her music!!  If you are attending the concert please comment here.  Remember that Jann will be returning to next Sunday, January 31 at 8 pm

Quiet? Come to the Centre to Liven Things Up!!

Now that we have recovered (hopefully) from our holiday season take alook at what is coming up at the Centre in the Square. The events planned for the next month will definately put off any winter blahs that may be approaching! January will finish up with 2 Jann Arden shows, the 24th and the 31st, and a visit from Colin James on the 25th. Talk about Canadian talent on your doorstep!! As a special treat to bring in February, HAIRSPRAY is back!! Any winter blues you may be feeling will be blown away by this upbeat and optimistic broadway show.

Goodbye 2009, Hello 2010

2009 is almost at an end and what a way to go out with the Centre in the Square’s stage filled with The Wizard of Oz. The Centre was full on Tuesday night with grandparents, parents, and children attending the performance. Line ups to the washrooms were long but everyone waiting was talking about how much they were enjoying the show. The show for Wednesday afternoon is sold out but there are a few remaining tickets for Wednesday night. At intermission on Tuesday there were people asking about Wednesday night so they could come back or even get tickets for friends!!!! What a way to end the year.

Hopefully there are New Years Resolutions to attend more Live shows like the ones presented at Centre in the Square. 2010 has a great line up for you consideration. We are starting the year with the Chinese performing arts Shen Yun which has sold very well but still has some premier seats available. We have Colin James coming, Jann Arden (who has added a show a week later as the original Jan 24 date sold out), Hairspray is back and many more. IT HAS BEEN AWHILE

It is amazing how time flies and the things that you think you have done are not really done!!! This included updating the blogs!!! It has been a busy time at the Centre in the Square with the first concert in the Kitchener Wilmot Electric Thursday Series. It was the 2009 Space Oddity  featuring music from David Bowie, Moody Blues and ELO. Just before intermission they included some Queen!

The holiday season has officially arrived with the Grand Philharmonic Choir’s performance of the Messiah last Saturday (December 5). This was  the last Messiah before the retirement of Artistic Director Howard Dyck. It was a very busy night with a great turnout.

Upcoming events will include Rita MacNeil and the Men of the Deeps. If you have not been to one of these concerts I strongly recommend it. Ms MacNeil does Christmas songs that brings you into the spirit of the holidays. The voices of the Men of the Deeps are remarkable and this makes for a very enjoyable family evening.

This year the Centre in the Square has Stuart McLearn – A Vinyl Cafe Christmas for 2 nights…December 16 & 17. When we have one show it sells out in no time so in adding the second show people who need to wait until closer to the date can still get some tickets.

December 28th will be the day for the Nutcracker at the Centre. Ballet Jorgen is returning with the Group of Seven Nutcracker. This innovative performance includes paintings from the Group of Seven as background to the classic story. You may even see a Mountie. Two shows on the Monday one at 2:00 pm and one at 7:30 pm.

The last show for 2009 at the Centre in the Square will be the Broadway performance of THE WIZARD OF OZ. This family classic is sure to entertain all ages and makes a great family treat for the holidays. 

Everyone have a safe holiday season and be sure to come to the Centre for one of our great performances.  Remember that we do have Gift Certificates so if you have someone who is hard to buy for why not give them the Gift of Entertainment.

AVENUE Q

At long last Avenue Q has arrived and Tuesday November 24 is opening night. there are still plenty of great seats available for the Wednesday and Thursday evening performances!!! DOWNCHILD BLUES BAND

Legendary group Downchild Blues Band will be at the Centre In The Square December 10, 2009 at 7:30 pm.  There are still plenty of tickets available so call the Centre to order.  Great for a Christmas party!!!
